With firearms and ammunition being scarce the player must rely on discovering and utilizing items as weapons for self-defense and fighting off zombie hordes in intense melee combat. A diverse range of items can be collected and will later serve to transform the player's ordinary makeshift weapons into serious instruments of destruction.

E3 top pick: Dead Island

At E3, Gamer Limit spent some quality time with the title, along with representatives from Techland and Deep Silver.After about 40 minutes poring over the nooks and crannies of the fictional island of Banoi, I must say that no other game captures the elements of survival and fear quite like Dead Island. It's enough to make this my E3 top pick.

It's from the perspective of a partygoer, who's unfortunately a little too sauced for us to get a clear look at what's going on. Oh well, at least he had fun.

The game takes place on the fictional island of Bonai. A lot of the scenery in Dead Island is quite beautiful and looks like it would be a nice place to visit, if it weren't for the flesh eating zombies.The controls for Dead Island are your standard FPS layout. Left trigger to aim and right trigger to shoot or throw. Since there're not many guns on the island, you will be throwing more than shooting. Taking a cue from Dead Rising, you can construct various melee weapons using different parts. While there isn't much friendly-fire, you can damage your friends if they get too close to a grenade or a sticky bomb that you've thrown.

Ever since its first trailer released several months ago, Dead Island has been one of my most anticipated upcoming games.The sheer irony of a lush island paradise marred by walking human decay carries a rare yet growing appeal. Now the game is almost upon us.

Dead Island is a game that has been in development for a long time, but wowed people recently with an extremely well done trailer.However that trailer featured no actual shots of how the game actually looked in action. Then, when there wasn't any gameplay being shown shortly afterwards, skepticism grew around whether or not the actual game could live up to the hype that was generated by one well made advertisement.
